Get The Personal Computer Tutor’s most recommended Free software to really help your computer

(1) Fix, Optimize, and Protect Your Computer

AVG – Very good, Free, “basic antivirus and antispyware protection for your home computer.”

(Note: The second and third links on their download page let you install AVG on another computer that does not have a high speed internet connection)

CCleaner – Clean up your PC from all the problems that Windows constantly develops that makes it slow down. This is the best Free software to speed up your computer that I know of, because it actually addresses some of the areas where your computer creates some of it's worst problems [also see: Alternate download site].

Defraggler – "Defrag" your entire hard drive to make your files and programs work more efficiently

(2) Enhance Your Computer

e-Sword – This is about the best Bible software in the world as far as I know, and it's FREE! I say that everyone with a working computer should download and use e-Sword!

TTSReader – Free Text-to-Speech Screen Reader - software that lets gets your computer to read text to you

LibreOffice – The best free alternative to Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and more).

Firefox – Firefox is free and has many free and very good add-ons like: “ad blocks” for (1) email, (2) flash ads, (3) Facebook, and (4) general use; Also: quickly turn on and off all pictures (takes some customizing). – All of these types of add-ons make this the most efficient and beneficial web experience that I have used so far.

[also see: Internet Purity Notice]

Adobe Reader – This is very necessary for viewing many file formats available on the internet and the computer world in general. Though you probably already have a version installed on your computer, you can click above to get the latest version of Adobe Acrobat.

(3) Software for More Advanced Users

Audacity – A really good free audio editor and recorder.

Gimp – A free Photoshop alternative. This enables you to do just about anything you can imagine with photos.

SyncBack - Highly recommended “freeware program that helps you easily backup and synchronize your files...”

AutoHotkey - Adds “super abilities” to your computer and lets you teach your computer to do all the hard repetitive work for you, by enabling you to write “scripted” tasks for your computer to repeat whenever you wish. This definitely can help you accomplish big tasks and tedious projects that would otherwise be nearly impossible to do because of the repetitive labor, and when you learn to use it, it streamlines your entire work flow so that nearly everything you do on your computer can potentially become considerably more efficient.

It can be a very advanced tool, but I would say that it is worth the time it takes to learn.

Komposer - a Free and "complete web authoring system" for making websites. Especially if you cannot afford Dreamweaver, Komposer can be a good free alternative.
